Get ready to learn things not traditionally taught to medical doctors!
Some of the things you will hear Dr. Buttar and Robert talk about in this week’s show are:

Dr. Brownstein: Where Is Our Billion Dollars to Develop a Zika Vaccine? – Did you ever wonder what happened to Zika? You should, as our Government gave the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) $1.1 billion to study and develop a vaccine against Zika. Where did that money go and what happened to Zika? Recall that the Zika virus was making national headlines in 2016 as the CDC and other Powers-That-Be were claiming that Zika was responsible for the microcephaly epidemic that was occurring in one area of Brazil. I know many of you do not like the term “fake news.” (Trust me, I hear about it every time I use it, especially by my much older sister.) But, I can find no better way to describe the mainstream reporting Zika coverage by the media, which was being driven by the CDC.

2016 saw increase in birth defects potentially linked to Zika – From the first half of 2016 to the second half of 2016, there was an increase in the number of birth defects potentially related to Zika virus infection, according to research published in the Jan. 26 issue of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report. Augustina Delaney, Ph.D., from the CDC in Atlanta, and colleagues analyzed data from 15 U.S. jurisdictions conducting population-based surveillance for birth defects potentially related to Zika virus infection. Overall, 2,962 infants and fetuses met the case definition (3.0 per 1,000 live births).

We tend to think of breast cancer sufferers as women over the age of 60 – yet this is a disease which can affect both women and men at any age. This month marks five years since Jon Baker, a 37-year old police officer from Runcorn, Cheshire, died of breast cancer. He had been diagnosed two years earlier, but not before he had visited his GP twice, complaining of a breast lump, and twice been sent away with antibiotics for an ingrowing hair. Even after breathlessness had taken him to hospital, he was sent back to the GP and it was only after five months – following Jon’s insistence on further investigation – that breast cancer was diagnosed. Contrary to popular belief, men can develop breast cancer too, whether they are young or old.

As flu blankets the nation, a new study links the virus to heart attacks – The flu doesn’t just cause aches, chills and debilitating fatigue. A new study shows it may also increase the risk of a heart attack. The Canadian study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, shows a six-fold increase in heart attacks shortly after people get the flu. “We found that your risk of a heart attack is six times higher in the first week after the diagnosis of influenza, which is a significant increase for that short period of time,” said Dr. Jeff Kwong, lead author of the study and a scientist at the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences and Public Health Ontario. The study arrives in the middle of a particularly harsh flu season.

Trial to study water as treatment for polycystic kidney disease – Researchers in Australia are conducting a trial to determine whether a prescribed amount of water can reduce kidney failure in patients with polycistic kidney disease. The three-year randomized study in humans, called PREVENT-ADPKD, will investigate the use of water in treating adult polycystic kidney disease. The new study protocol, the first of its kind, was published in BMJ Open. ADPKD, an inherited disease, occurs when kidneys deteriorate because of cysts that destroy healthy tissue over time. ADPKD, the most common genetic kidney disease in adults, affects one in every 2,500 individuals.

Get ready to learn things not traditionally taught to medical doctors!
Some of the things you will hear Dr. Buttar and Robert talk about in this week’s show are:

  • The mainstream media is widely reporting that California medical doctor Bob Sears is facing discipline by the California state Medical Board after he wrote a medical exemption for vaccines on behalf of a 2-year old patient who experienced adverse reactions from earlier vaccines. Dr. Sears is a well-known pediatrician nationally, and he is notanti-vaccine. He administers vaccines in his practice, but allows for a more individualized approach to vaccines, such as staggering them, or when necessary due to the health of his patients, forgoing some vaccines. He is the author of a very popular book, “The Vaccine Book.”

  • The benefits of statins – cholesterol-busting drugs that can dramatically reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes – have been underestimated and their harms exaggerated, scientists said on Thursday in a major review of research.

  • Public confidence in immunization varies widely across the world with the French the most skeptical about the safety of vaccines, according to a survey published on Friday. With outbreaks of measles, whooping cough and other infectious diseases occurring in recent years in places where the take-up of vaccinations has been low, the scientists behind the survey said its insights could help policymakers tackle such problems.

  • San Diego residents are fighting the authorities on the Zika spraying in their neighborhood. While it seems like an obvious statement, “Pesticides are Poison”, officials are standing by their story that the spray will not harm the area.

Get ready to learn things not traditionally taught to medical doctors!
Some of the things you will hear Dr. Buttar and Robert talk about in this week’s show are:

  • Zika has been linked to birth defects. Now it may be causing paralysis?

  • The prevalence of human papillomavirus (HPV) infections among teenage girls in the United States has dropped by more than 60 percent since the vaccine against the cancer-causing virus was introduced a decade ago, according to a new study.  However, researchers are still disappointed that only 42% of girls in the recommended age rage have received the vaccine which requires 3 doses over 6 months. Could this drop in numbers also just be due to an increased awareness of the dangers of STD’s?

  •  March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month, and the perfect time to think about colon health.  Less than half of people aged 50 and older get tested for colon cancer, but early detection can save lives. Colorectal cancer is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death in the US, yet it has a 90 percent cure rate when detected early, Rather than waiting around to see if we get it…what can we be doing pro-actively to detox and clean our gut and colon??  Remember, we have the ability every day to put good things into our system, and help the bad stuff get out.

  • Is there a treatment for cancer that is 10,000 times more effective than chemo?  Yes, and it’s in your kitchen according to recently published study in PLoS.  It indicates that a substance found in ginger called 6-shogaol is a potent agent in fighting breast cancer—much more potent than chemotherapy and much less dangerous.  That’s fantastic news!  Adding fresh ginger into the diet via cold-pressed juice is a great option for anyone!

  • It probably won’t seem like much of a surprise, but a recent study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has revealed that a stunning number of Americans are still not getting enough sleep. According to a report from Entrepreneur, the latest surveys revealed that adults in all 50 states and the District of Columbia are not getting the amount of sleep they need.  7 hours is the recommended amount, and apparently those in the mid-west plains states are the best rested. The further south you go, and especially Hawaii get the least sleep.  Watch out for the walking dead in a Starbucks near you!

  • Speaking of sleep, having sleep apnea may increase the risk of chronic kidney disease, according to a report from Taiwan. After taking other health factors into account, sleep apnea increased the risk of kidney disease by 58%. By comparison, hypertension (a known risk factor for kidney disease) increased the risk by 17%. Diabetes was a stronger predictor than both other factors, more than doubling the risk of kidney disease, the research team reported online.  In general, the healthier your body is, the better you will sleep, so all of this factors are tied together, and need to be treated in tandem.  Tonight, maybe try a little yoga or deep breathing before bed.  Turn off your wifi, imagine your in the middle of no-where South Dakota…and sleep like a baby!
